Autodynamica Performance / FPL Cars is pleased to offer this Time Capsule Signal Red over Palomino leather 1988 Mercedes-Benz 560SL with only 14,000 miles. According to the NMVTIS (National Motor Vehicle Title Information System) this car was first registered in New Jersey in 1992 and then in California in May 2019, with no problems or “brands” reported whatsoever. The car comes with a clean Carfax report showing no accidents or damage, and a clean California title. It was then purchased by us and brought to Texas where it has undergone our rigorous Multipoint Inspection Program for European Cars at the hands of our expert mechanics in our state-of-the-art shop, passing with flying colors. The engine starts right up, hot or cold, and runs smooth and quiet, with ample power. The transmission shifts cleanly and smoothly, and the suspension and brakes work just as they should. Driving this car is a pleasure and there are no squeaks or rattles. The Signal Red paint is shiny and shows very well even in direct sunlight. The Palomino leather interior looks practically new and is still soft and supple. The brown canvas soft top is flexible and free of blemishes, except for a 2” long rip between the left and center rear windows. It looks like a repair was attempted at some point, but seeing how the rest of the top is in great shape, leaving it “as is” would probably be best for the sake of originality. Even the plastic rear windows are clear and show a few minor wrinkles from having stayed folded for such a long time. However, the top has not shrunk and still goes up and down perfectly. All the rubber body and bumper moldings are flexible, not dried, and still look great. It has a removable hardtop, chrome-plated 15" Gullideckel alloy wheels with Michelin tires, fog lights, an alarm system, power windows, central locking, cruise control, automatic climate control, and a limited-slip differential. In the glovebox are the original owner’s manual and top removal tools. Codenamed R107, the 1972-89 Mercedes-Benz SL is a two-seat convertible with a hideaway convertible top and a detachable hardtop roof. It replaced the W113 SL-Class in 1971 and was replaced by the R129 SL-Class in 1989. During its production run, the SL was the only roadster offered by Mercedes-Benz. The 560 SL represents the last iteration of the series. Built from 1986 to 1989, it was the most powerful version available from the factory, exclusive to the USA, European, Japanese, and Australian markets. The 5.5 L (5,547 cc) SOHC V8 has a compression Ratio of 9.0: 1 and was rated by the factory at a Max. Power of 227 hp (169 kW) @ 5200 rpm and Max. Torque of 287 lb·ft (389 N·m) @ 3500 rpm. It has a 4-speed automatic transmission (model W4A 040 type 722.3) which is unofficially called “4G-Tronic” by car enthusiasts and is considered to be one of the most reliable transmissions ever built by Mercedes-Benz with some examples exceeding 300,000 miles of service. According to the previous owner, the oil was changed in October 2022, and the fuel pump was replaced in November 2023. Nevertheless, we have replaced all fluids with fresh ones, and for the sake of reliability, we have installed new spark plugs, belts, brake hoses, and sway bar bushings, to give its new owner the peace of mind of having a freshly serviced and inspected car which will be certain to give him or her many miles of stress-free enjoyment.
